ROMA ARE HEADING DOWNWARDS FROM EARLY GLORY

What ever happened to Roma?

The team that were supposed to be the constant title challengers to Juventus?

That role has now gone to Napoli who look to be the closest team to Juventus in terms of quality.

As for Roma, they are a team stuck in third gear, and have not been brave enough to evolve, improve and bring in the players that can help them become a serious force this season in the Serie A.

With players such as Rudiger and Pjanic leaving as well as their legend, Totti, announcing his retirement; I don't see who has come in to replace them.

You're seeing just how well Rudiger is doing for Chelsea, and having a solid center-back is crucial during a long, tough and gruelling season of football.

Then of course, a role that has now become a must in modern football, which is the number ten. Your creator, and the one who finds space and helps the team to open up the opposition with clever passes as well as getting the team to tick.

That is why Juventus had their eyes on Pjanic and lured him to Turin. With him gone and Roma not bringing in an equivalent, that has and will continue to hurt them. Because Dzeko is a striker who needs all the the help he can get.

Spaletti overachieved. With what he had to work with, he did better than he should have, and you can already see how he is improving Inter Milan.

He should have been given more funds to improve the squad and I believe that was one of the reasons he left. With the resources he was given, he took the team as far as he could, and needed to move to club which gave him more.

Where are Roma headed? That is the real question. From winning the title back in the early part of the millenium with the likes of Batistuta and a peak Totti, being most football fan's second club, they have now declined and have become barely a good team.

They need quality. From back to front. They need better scouting, and have to rebuild their team if they are serious about competing with the likes of Juventus and Napoli who are far better than they are.

Players like De Rossi, Nainggolan, and Florenzi are good but they aren't enough to mount a challenge to Juventus or even make a squeak in the Champions League.

And with Inter Milan slowly figuring themselves out, Roma are in serious threat of plunging down the pecking order in Italy. HH
