So....is this Milan's answer to their undeperformance? Is this the man to plot their escape out of the jaws of obscurity? Montella? A manager who has achieved what exactly? What has he done that should give Milan fans hope that he is the one to finally bring back the glory?
Sad. It's as if Galliani and Berlusconi take pleasure in the slow and painful demise of one of the world's most famous and respected clubs. You would think if they actually cared about getting AC Milan to compete with Juventus, they would try to beg Ancelotti to come back, sending him flowers and his own pick of a custom made playboy mansion. Or at least make an attempt to get Mourinho, Pep, Koeman or even De Boer.
Montella?
That's just pitiful, and unacceptable. How different is this hiring from Mihaijlovic? I don't see this as an improvement, but simply just dipping your hand inside box full of mediocrity and taking whatever name you pull out.
The situation that Milan finds themselves is an especially bad one. This isn't a case where they have amazing players, with huge egos and you need a manager to get them playing together. That's a problem but a nice one to have with a high degree of success.
But when you have to manage such talents as Abate and Montolivo, this where you need to call a few witchdoctors for assistance. Montella on his lonesome cannot, and I repeat, cannot get the extremely average players at Milan playing at the level Juventus, Napoli, Roma, and even Sassuolo play at.
I'm not saying Vincenzo is a bad coach. He actually did really well at Fiorentina and got them playing some good football. Didn't win anything, but he showed that he can manage a team that can get results whilst playing well. The only problem is this is AC Milan. All because you've done well at a small club doesn't mean that will translate into being able to be successful at a major one.
To get the very best out of the average players Milan have, you need a vastly experienced manager who's been around the block and knows the tricks in getting more with less. A perfect example is Alex Ferguson, who made the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt and Beckham look like world class creatures when in fact, they were decent at best.
Montella is no Ferguson and he has neither the experience or the tactical knowledge to take on this task. In fact, this Milan team he'll be managing is actually less talented than his Fiorentina one. There were some good players he had in Florence, who could actually dribble, and were technically good. Apart from Bacca, Balotelli (not sure who he plays for these days) and maybe Bonaventura, who else at Milan is worth a grain of salt?
Now as a Milan fan, surely you must be brimming with hope and expectation.
Yeah, yeah; I could be wrong and Montella could shock us all and somehow get Milan winning and build a great team ethic just like Leicester that carries them onward toward victory against all odds when people like me counted them out. Anything is always possible but I prefer to deal with what facts I have before me and say, this is not the manager that Milan needs in order to rise again.
Oh well, Milan won't be in the Champions League next season I guess. HH
