Emre Can Cannot Replace Khedira at Juventus...Yet
Sami Khedira for Emre Can doesn't make any sense. So Juventus board if you are listening, please read this article before you give this move the greenlight.
Khedira is a player who doesn't get enough credit. And it's understandable, because of the long term injuries he's had.
But when the German plays, he is a midfielder that every manager would love to have in their team. Smart, strong, stamina-induced, good passer, knows how to get a goal and understands the very demanding and gruelling requirements of the central midfielder.
He is that rare all-round talent in the middle of the field that does so much for the balance of the team. And he has been a critical component to the recent success of Juventus.
So when I hear of how Juventus want to come in for Emre Can, I nod. Then when I continue to learn that he is in fact supposed to replace Khedira, I scratch my head, because that simply does not work.
Can has been improving of late and is starting to show his potential for Liverpool. You just have to look at his great performance against Arsenal where he almost got his hat-trick in the rout.
The key word though is starting, because Can is not yet on Khedira's level where he can control the midfield in the way his more experienced compatriot can. It takes years and years of professional games in order to reach that level.
Now, this may be a case of where Juventus's hand has been forced as it's been reported that Khedira, who is now 30, wants to take his talents to the States and see out the rest of his career in the MLS.
If that's the case, I still don't believe Can is the right player to take over Khedira. Yes, the younger German is versatile which makes him more useful for Allegri when he wants to change tactics. But the priority has to be filling the central midfield void when Khedira leaves.
Juventus getting Can would be a great coup for the club, but he would be needed in addition with another midfield player. Someone who can help support him in the middle of the pitch.
I advise, an older more experienced street-wise kind of midfielder that Can can learn and develop from.
